What to do when going with the flow feels like you’re swimming upstream

Hi there Poppys

Today is the New Moon in Virgo which according to The Cosmic Collective 2016 Moon Energy Calendar hanging on the wall above my desk brings with it the energy of Goddess Energy, Details and Healing. "We are feeling reborn as we are awakening to the fact that we are NOT victims instead we are feeling empowered by all that we have been GIFTED with on our journeys". Sounds good to me! Also definitely resonating with me as I shared with you last week about my rebirth and I am now preparing an exciting event in September (think amazing women leaders in a circle...more details next week) along with a new offering I am launching in October (again think collective, think inspired community...all will be revealed soon).
So as I am full steam ahead with preparations, this week leading up to the New Moon has had me feel like slowing down, taking it easy and hearing my body calling me to rest. My face is a bit swollen, my eyes hurt and there’s a general lethargy about me. But hold the boat peeps, I don’t have time for “taking it easy”, I’ve got shit to do. Here's how to go with the flow of the energy surrounding you....

Last week I achieved an amazing amount of work, there was a lot of momentum and I was riding the wave of productivity, then it feels like all of a sudden it stopped. The flow that I was in hit a wall and I found myself in a lovely little rock pool being asked to rest instead of riding high on the wave of momentum (there is a lot of water and stream analogies here, but I’m a visual person and it helps describe my inner self to a tee!).
As a woman I know you know what I’m talking about with our energy levels and how it changes rhythmically and I’m guessing most of you know it has to do with the moon and your own menstrual cycle.
So how do you deal with this natural ebb and flow of energy in your life and business?
Well firstly, be aware of what YOUR unique cycle is and be prepared for it to subtly change each month as well. If you haven’t done so before I highly recommend keeping a mood journal for few months, noting your mood, where you are in your cycle and what the moon is doing. Interestingly my menstrual cycle is every 26 days so it doesn’t always line up with the New Moon (which is when women traditionally had their period back when as a population we lived in closer unison with the earth). It used to really shit me that my period would land differently each month, however through awareness, I’ve now come to understand my natural ebb and flow and how it differs and I’m OK with it now (note recovering perfectionist tendency to try and control everything!!). Be OK with what is.

Secondly, give yourself permission to be exactly where you are in the river of life (water analogy again), listen to your body. So last week when I was getting a shit tonne done, I actually had my period, but this week I’ve been slowing down thanks to La Luna and her feminine pull to go inward. Old me would have been really fucked off and hard on myself and INSIST that we bloody well swim as hard as we can against the natural flow that life has offered. Especially because I’ve just had my period so I SHOULD be full of creative energy and flow. Uh-oh, alarm bells I just said the “I should” phrase and this tells me that I am lining up to buy a ticket on the “let’s be really hard on myself” train. Have you found yourself at that station? Do yourself a favour missus and exit the platform immediately! Give yourself a break, notice what is going on around you and within you and LISTEN to your body’s inner wisdom.
So the trick now is to create some balance, you don’t have to stop everything for a week and do nothing (unless you really want to), but I know with myself that I still want to gently float in a forward direction in that river.
Action steps to support this are:
- Look at your to-do list and refine it, maybe action the top 1 or 2 things rather than the top 3.
- Book in some self care time for you, I like going to be early with a book and tomorrow I’m getting a Pedicure.
- If you bought a ticket on the self-recrimination train and hopped on, it’s not too late to press the emergency stop button and get off. How? Forgive yourself for buying the ticket and then celebrate yourself for having the awareness to stop the train (cue music “Don’t be so hard on yourself, no. Learn to forgive learn to let go. Everyone trips, everyone falls. So don’t be so hard on yourself no..” thanks Jess Glynne).
- Know this for sure - you will get back on that wave of productivity and creativity and you can kick the shit out of your to-do list then and catch up!
- Ask for support! If you want some help to create a new way of approaching your ebbs and flows, book a Breakthrough session with me and we'll clear the way for you to invite more awareness and ease into your life and biz.
Well I think I’m all analogised out! So I bid you farewell today Poppys
Until next week…..
